Owen Gwynedd fathers Irowerth (He had an imperfect nose so
he could not rule). Irowerth married Margaret daughter of Madoc ap Meredith the
Prince of Powys. Irowerth and Margaret’s son was Prince Llewellyn the Great of
North Wales (circa 1194). Llewellyn married twice. He was married to Joan the
illegitimate or natural daughter of King John of the Plantagenet line by Agatha
who was the daughter of Robert Ferrerr, Earl of Darby.
Llewellyn and Joan have two children Gwladys who was the 2nd wife of Reginald De Broase and she married 2nd Ralph Lord Mortimer of Wigmore, she died 1251 in Berkshire England and can be found in Shropeshire visitations. The other son is Prince David who began his reign in 1249. To place John and Joan into a Video History use Robin Hood. King John, Joan’s father is usually portrayed as the evil king and brother to Richard the Lionhearted, in every Robin Hood Tale available. This is certainly not really an accurate portrayal.
The next place where there is a connection to the Kings is also through Owen Gwynedd. Owen Gwynedd’s son David (Who’s nose was ok and could rule) married Emma of Maine France. Emma was the illegitimate or natural daughter of Henry I (Plantagenet). This made her the ½ sister of Henry II (Plantagenet). Emma and David have one son Owen and possibly more children. The confirmation of Emma as ½ sister to King Henry II can be found in his pipe rolls as well as reference of the marriage to Prince David. Emma was a traveling companion to Eleanor of Aquataine, Henry II wife. David and Emma were dispossessed of land by his nephew Llewellyn the Great and are left with only Ruthin. Eleanor and Henry as well as their sons John Geoffrey and Richard are all depicted in the movie A Lion in Winter.
